The creator of the decentralized blockchain platform and the inventor of the Solidity smart contract language has introduced a groundbreaking project currently under development.
Alongside these updates, Polkadot continues to rise in adoption and innovation as global regulations around cryptocurrencies become more favorable.
Insights into the New Framework
During the ongoing Web3 Summit 2025 in Berlin, Gavin Wood presented the Proof-of-Personhood (PoP) model, discussing its potential impact on the public sphere. This protocol is designed to facilitate decentralized human verification directly on the blockchain.
The initiative will be rolled out through the blockchain’s Individuality system, featuring two unique identifiers: DIM1 and DIM2.
DIM1 will symbolize Proof of Individuality, while DIM2 will stand for Proof of Verified Individuality. Although a launch date hasn’t been set, Wood announced that the PoP rollout will be backed by a $3 million treasury proposal.
The protocol’s introduction will also include what Wood describes as the “most equitable airdrop to date.”
Concluding his keynote on the summit’s first day, the Ethereum co-founder shared his vision of utilizing PoP to tackle identity challenges commonly associated with blockchain technology.
This initiative is increasingly vital in today’s era of artificial intelligence (AI), which is rapidly evolving, making it progressively harder to discern between reality and AI-generated content.
Dr. Wood also elaborated that the Polkadot PoP concept represents a leading Web3 primitive that will enhance sybil resistance and lower network security expenses, addressing the shortcomings of traditional verification methods like CAPTCHAs and KYC.
In another summit panel titled “Trust,” Ian Grigg, an Inventor and Financial Cryptographer at Ricardian Contracts, discussed how trust extends beyond mere technological assurances.
He argued that no matter how sophisticated technology becomes, it cannot entirely replicate trust, which is a human sentiment laden with uncertainty and intricate emotions beyond the reach of machines.
Additional Polkadot Developments
In addition to this announcement, the DAO-managed blockchain has reached several significant milestones over the past year.
The Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA) launched its fifth edition in late May 2024, reinforcing its mission to cultivate and develop talent in Singapore.
Furthermore, Polkadot became the Title sponsor of Coinfest Asia 2024, with one of its parachains supporting Asynchronous Backing.
Moreover, Leo Messi’s football team, Inter Miami, secured a sponsorship with the software platform, which has been named their Global Training Partner.
