Former legislator Jan Calderon has launched a 2026 California gubernatorial run, promising affordable prices and Bitcoin on the state’s balance sheet, despite competition from front-runners.
Jan Calderon: A gubernatorial campaign with Bitcoin at the center
Former California Assemblyman Jan Calderon, known as a Bitcoin supporter, has officially launched his campaign for governor in 2026. He said his generation lives in a world of digital payments and keeps its savings in BTC, while the government continues to apply “yesterday’s ideas.”
Bitcoin in the state’s strategy
Calderon promised that California would become a leader in crypto innovation and proposed that the state keep Bitcoin on its balance sheet. According to him, BTC could be used to fund programs, which would make California’s financial policy more modern.
Odds and Competitors
The election will be held on November 3, 2026. Calderon will start as an outsider, with former Democratic congresswoman Kathy Porter, Republican Sheriff Chad Bianco, and former FOX News advisor Steve Hilton among the favorites. However, Calderon already has a history of promoting blockchain policy, including as the author of a bill to allow Bitcoin as a legal tender.
